SimpleLogSearch

Privacy Policy

SimpleLogSearch is a free log file search that runs entirely in your browser, and this page states what that means in practice: what the site does with your data (almost nothing), the one preference it remembers, and the third-party advertising that keeps the service free. There is no server-side storage to speak of and no account system to protect, so this policy is short — but it covers every place where data could plausibly touch a network.

Your files never leave your browser

When you select a log file, your browser reads it into the page's own memory using its built-in file API. From that moment the file is processed strictly in memory and strictly read-only: the app tokenizes each line for matching, keeps the original text so matched lines display exactly as written, and holds nothing on disk. Nothing is uploaded, transmitted, or sent to a server at any point — there is no server, because SimpleLogSearch is a static site with no backend of any kind. Your file contents never appear in a request, a log, a database, or an advertisement. When you close the tab, reload the page, or load a different file, the in-memory copy is discarded and unrecoverable by anyone but you, including the author. The app also cannot reach any file you did not explicitly select; it sees only what you choose to open.

No accounts, no tracking of file contents

There is no sign-up, no login, no email address, and no user profile on this site. Because no account exists, there is nothing to store about you on a server, and therefore nothing that could be leaked or sold in the way account data is. The app does not track, index, record, or share file contents in any form: which lines you search, what queries you run, and what matches you read are all computed on your machine and exist only while the page is open. If your organization policy restricts how logs may leave their environment, this tool satisfies the strictest reading of that rule — the log text never crosses the boundary at all.

What is stored in your browser

The only thing SimpleLogSearch ever writes to persistent storage is the interface language you choose from the header menu, kept in your browser's local storage under the key sls-lang so that the next visit opens in the same language. It is a single locale code — it contains no file names, queries, or personal information — and it never leaves your browser. You can delete it at any time through your browser's site-data settings; the app then simply defaults to English again. No other cookies or local-storage entries are set by this site itself.

Google AdSense

To keep SimpleLogSearch free, the site is monetized with Google AdSense advertisements (served after approval). Ads are delivered by third parties: Google and its partners may set cookies in accordance with Google's own advertising policy, which can include information about your visits to this and other sites so that ads shown to you are more relevant. That advertising data belongs to Google's system, not to SimpleLogSearch, and it never receives anything from the app — no file name, file content, or search query is passed to any advertising script. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google's Ads Settings page (adssettings.google.com) or manage these cookies through your browser's cookie controls. Displaying non-personalized ads instead does not change anything about how your files are processed.

Analytics

Version 1 of SimpleLogSearch contains no analytics scripts: there are no page-view counters, no usage dashboards, and no fingerprinting of any kind. The site records nothing about you or your sessions. If analytics are ever added in a future version, this page will be updated first, and they will not have access to file contents under any configuration.

Contact

Questions, feedback, or privacy concerns can be sent to the author, Chris Pardue, through the contact page at cehstudy.com/contact (the same personal channel listed in our FAQ), or as a GitHub issue on the SimpleLogSearch repository at github.com/cpardue/simplelogsearch. Reports are read personally; there is no ticket system to maintain because there are no accounts.
